BCHC strengthens links in India

The BCHC has been delighted to welcome Dr P. A. Ahammed Shareef from the Department of Zoology at PMSO College, Kerala, India as a visiting Fellow during April and May. Shareef has previously visited Aberystwyth in 2013 as part of a BBSRC funded research project tackling Fasciolaisis in the UK and India working with both Prof. Peter Brophy and Dr. Russ Morphew.  During his second time in Aberystwyth, and first to the BCHC, Shareef has been investigating the extracellular vesicles of parasitic rumen flukes; an important infection in Buffalo across India and thus work to combat them is of utmost priority.

Dr Russ Morphew commented on the visit and stated ‘The training that Shareef has received from us at the BCHC will stand him in good stead upon his return to India. This continued collaboration, now spanning 8 years, will allow us to tackle some of India’s most challenging parasitic infections for the agricultural sector. I look forward to continuing to work with Shareef for many years to come.’  Shareef, whilst in Aberystwyth, also managed to present some of his recent work on ‘Anthelmintic action of Triclabendazole in vivo on juvenile tropical liver fluke, Fasciola gigantica’ at the recent British Society for Parasitology spring meeting held in Aberystwyth.

You are welcome back at any time Shareef!
