BCHC welcomes new PhD Students

The BCHC is delighted to announce that we will be welcoming a number of new PhD students in October.

Holly Northcote, a previous MSc student at Aberystwyth University has been awarded an Eleanor and David James PhD scholarship. The title of her project is ‘The molecular host-parasite interaction between the equine tapeworm, Anoplocephala perfoliata, and the equine microbiome’. Holly will be supervised by Dr Russ Morphew, Prof. Peter Brophy and Dr Ruth Wonfor.

Sarah Davey, a current MSc student enrolled on the Aberystwyth University MRes course in Parasite control has been awarded an BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) PhD studentship within the FoodBioSystems DTP. Sarah’s project is entitled ‘Repositioning histone modifying enzyme (HME) inhibitors as next-generation flukicides’, she will be supervised by Prof Aaron Maule (Queens University Belfast), Prof Karl Hoffmann, Dr Iain Chalmers and Dr Gilda Padalino (IBERS) and Dr Jaroslaw Tomczak (Informatics Unlimited).

Christopher Wray has been awarded a BBSRC funded DTP PhD scholarship to investigate ‘Can many biomarkers make light work of liver fluke parasite diagnostics?’. Christopher will be supervised by Dr Paul McVeigh (Queens University Belfast) and Dr Russ Morphew with Ridgeway Research as industrial partners.
