BCHC congratulates Esme Logan, winner of British Society of Animal Science (BSAS) Undergraduate Thesis of the Year.

Please join the BCHC and Department of Life Sciences in congratulating Esme Logan, who has been awarded the British Society of Animal Science (BSAS) Undergraduate Thesis of the Year Award for her final year dissertation project. Esme’s dissertation focused on the characterisation of a novel Fasciola hepatica protein target, contributing towards the continued efforts to develop new modes of control for this major livestock parasite.

“I feel fortunate to have carried out this project. My time at Aberystwyth University has been a truly special and formative chapter. I have had exceptional support from my tutor, Russ Morphew, and department staff throughout. Beyond the research, I’ve developed countless skills, made friendships for a lifetime, and created memories I will always cherish.”

Esme will now be moving on to study Veterinary Science at the University of Liverpool, where she aims to continue in parasitology research. Her achievement is a source of immense pride for her supervisor, Dr. Russ Morphew, and the DLS Veterinary Biosciences scheme at large.

“Esme produced a thesis of outstanding quality on a novel protein target that could be used for the control of a globally important parasite of livestock, the liver fluke. Her dedication to the project was exceptional and it is truly fitting that she has been recognised by the BSAS. I’m super proud!”
