Viva Success for Dr Holly Northcote

Congratulations to Dr. Holly Northcote who successfully defended her thesis  ‘Hide and Caecum: Exploration of the Potential Antimicrobial Activity of the Equine Tapeworm, A. perfoliata’ on 2nd January 2026.

Many thanks to the examiners, Prof. Jane Hodgkinson from Liverpool University and Dr Justin Pachebat as well as Dr Iain Chalmers for chairing. Dr Russ Morphew and Dr Ruth Wonfor supervised Holly. She was funded by an Eleanor and David James PhD Scholarship at Aberystwyth University for this PhD.

Holly said ‘Thank you to Prof. Jane Hodgkinson, Dr. Justin Pachebat, and Dr. Iain Chalmers for being so welcoming and making my viva experience fun.  Additionally, thank you to my supervisors, Dr Russell Morphew and Dr Ruth Wonfor, and fellow colleagues for supporting me through my PhD. I am excited to continue pursuing a career in research.’

Dr Russ Morphew said ‘Its been a pleasure to supervise Holly throughout her MSc project and now her PhD and it was great to end it on such an enjoyable occasion, a friendly discussion about a really interesting parasite. That said…they did keep us waiting whilst they enjoyed the chat! This is a well-deserved outcome for Holly. As supervisors, Ruth and I are immensely proud.’
