On Wednesday 3rd June 2026, Prof. Karl Hoffmann hosted the first Research Steering Group meeting for a new £10 million collaborative Wellcome grant, which aims to Accelerating pre-clinical drug discovery for schistosomiasis.
The BCHC was honoured to welcome project collaborators, our funders and Steering committee members from across the UK, Europe and USA to Aberystwyth University.
In attendance were our collaborators from University of Dundee – Drug Discovery Unit led by Dr. Beatriz Baragana and joining us remotely from UT Southwestern Medical Center USA led by Prof. James Collins. Members of the Research Steering Committee included Dr. Jeremy Burrows from Medicines for Malaria Vaccines and Thomas Spangenberg from Merck Group. Megan Neary and Eleanor Bogie from Wellcome rounded out the attendees.

During the meeting we delved into all areas of the project and progressed insightful conversations focused on schistosomiasis drug discovery. The meeting was a great success, and we look forward to our next meeting in December.
